Synapsis: A Humanities Journal Interview
Am excited to share this thoughtful interview “The Rupture of Silence: The Body, Language, and The Power Dynamics in Health with Monica Ong” by Merve Şen for Synapsis: A Humanities Journal. This medical humanities journal seeks “to develop conversations among diverse people thinking about medical and humanistic ways of knowing” through interdisciplinary conversations. It is sponsored by the Institute for Comparative Literature and Society and the Society of Fellows/Heyman Center for the Humanities at Columbia University. I recently visited Merve’s comparative literature class where we unpacked the medical-emotional narratives in Silent Anatomies. This interview delves into some rich conversation about the themes that still seem to resonate in classrooms today.
